3 ½ hours isn’t that long

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Wow, what a day today so far!!! This has been the best run I have had since I have started and the best since I was a lot smaller back in the mid 90’s. I had to make sure I didn’t over do it because it was a 12 miler and even though I felt great I had to make sure I didn’t do damage to joints and stuff. Even though I lost 3.4 pounds I am still 363 so I have to wait until I am at least in the 200’s before I try to be Speedy Gonzalez. I am actually beginning to amaze myself, things are just coming together. I figured the pounds would start to come off a little more soon so I was happy to see the drop in weight this week. I only see it getting better this week coming up. I am getting some good support so that is keeping me focused. I appreciate all the support by the way. The way I am feeling I could write for days….but I won’t. One other thing, my feet held up great today so that little scare last week is in the past. Question for everyone, is it bad to think that 3 ½ hours isn’t that long to be on the treadmill? Until next time…

Almost 5 full weeks into this mission.

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Another night time workout, I don’t really like going through the whole day and then to the gym but I had a headache when I woke up this morning so the late workout had to be done today. It was a pretty good one so good I will probably be wide awake for another 2 hours but it’s all a part of the plan. Tomorrow a 3 miler so I can go a little later because it won’t take as long. Almost 5 full weeks into this mission and I feel like it’s just another part of my life now. The only thing that will happen is I will get lighter and get better at what I am doing. Well until tomorrow….oh yea GO HEAT!!!!

A pretty inspiring start

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I’m back at it today. I took a little break to make sure my feet would be ready for the long haul. They felt great today, so far so good. I started out a little too fast today and my shins are hurting a little but they should be okay. I should have taken a little longer to warm up. I will tomorrow. Also at my current pace if I were to do the half marathon at that pace I would finish in 3:58:20. That’s 31 minutes and 27 seconds faster than my finishing time at the Cellcom half Marathon this past May. I think that’s pretty good and I’m not saying that I will chop off a half hour every 5 weeks but it is a pretty inspiring start for me. I have also officially registered for the U.S. Cellular half Marathon in Appleton, Wisconsin on September 21st. I am on my way. Time to go to work….

Everything felt great except my feet.

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Whew!!! What a day. I had to do my long run a day early and it was supposed to be 15 miles but I had to cut it a little after 10 miles. Everything felt great except my feet. I’m guessing the constant pounding got to them this week. I would have liked to finish today but I want to finish that marathon in January even more so it’s better to play it safe. I will have to see how I feel tomorrow to see whether I will go knock out the 3 miles I have tomorrow. Another week in the books, the end of week 4, I have lost a total of  11.6 lbs, right at about 2.9 lbs per week for the first month. Not too bad. I look forward to see what the next month has in store. Time to go to work….

The calm before the storm

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Back at it again, had a good rest after the workout last night and of course it was a little tough waking up but not tough enough to keep me in bed. Had a good workout today, weights and a 3 miler, I guess you can call it the calm before the storm. I move my long run up one day this week to tomorrow, 15 miles, ouch. I have to go to work after that too so that should be a test for me tomorrow. Doing the 15 will is a test for my head and going to work afterwards will is a test for my body. I have faith I’ll pass both tests. I felt really strong today and I picked up my speed a little bit too. I’ll be posting the new video tomorrow morning on You Tube so I’m looking forward to that. Well, it’s time to go to work…

Not by design, but by choice.

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

It’s 9:15 pm and of course that is an odd time for me to be doing this. However, the reason I am is because I just got back from the gym. I had a night session tonight, not by design, but by choice. This morning when I woke up I felt I need more sleep so I got more sleep. I made the daring choice to stay in bed instead of forcing myself to get up. Why daring? This is the first time in over a decade I have had the energy enough to go through a whole day and then go workout. Most people don’t know anything about that but the ones who do know exactly what I’m talking about. I’d call tonight a significant milestone. Well I’ll be writing again in about 12 hours so….it’s time to go to bed….

On my way to making this happen

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Whew!!! What a day. I went to the gym at about 7:30 which means I got some really good sleep. It was a great workout, I stepped my running up a little this week and I was pleased to be able to knock it out. I had a leg workout afterwards and as you can imagine my legs were already jelly. I made it through and I made it through in pretty impressive fashion. I am well on my way to making this happen. Time to go to work…..

I forgot to take my gel pack.

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Today was my long run day and it was pretty good. I did have a little trouble at around 7 ½ miles when I felt like I was running out of energy, then I realized I forgot to take my gel pack. After taking that I knocked out the last 2 ½ miles with no issues. Today was a little different because I went to the gym at around 2:40 AM. The reason for that is my wife and daughter had to run a 10k today and I needed to get my video done before my wife took her camera with her. Why not do it after they get back? Because I won’t do if I wait to long. Well 2.2 lbs this week, I’m moving in the right direction. As soon as I can get this video posted I will be taking a major nap. 15 miles on the long run next week, yikes….

My daughter’s first 10k

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Well today is Friday the 13th, so far not so unlucky for me. I had a great workout today and things are running on all cylinders right now. Other than being extra tired at times (usually when waking up) my training is going well. I am looking forward to the mileage tomorrow (at least until I get there). I have to go extra early tomorrow so the video will be in early too. The reason for that is my wife and daughter have a run tomorrow. It will be my daughter’s first 10k. Six months ago you would have never convinced me that she would have done this. I am proud of her, she has worked hard for it and to have this discipline at 9 years old is pretty good in my opinion. GO BENIE!!!!

Today is going to be a good day; it’s time to go to work…..

So of course I had to save the day.

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Well alright!!!! So I decided yesterday to start my workouts on Wednesday this week. Why, because Tuesday was my kids last day of school and I could sleep in until 6 AM and then get up and do my workout. Well guess what? That was a bad idea, I slept in until 9:15 AM and I was pretty bummed when that happened. So of course I had to save the day. I don’t have much planned this year in terms of vacation so I figured I would take a half day off just to go do my workout. It was a good one I must say and I am happy that I got it done. I am getting better and better (or lighter and lighter) as each day passes by. Tomorrow I think I will get up at my normal time just in case. Well, albeit late, it’s time to go to work…..
