The show must go on

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Distractions, Distractions, Distractions, all week long, I don’t know what it is but the show must go on. Other than missing a couple workouts things are going as planned. Next week I take a quick day trip to North Dakota to drive my little bro-in-law to school and then I am off for the remainder of the week. That should help me refocus whatever it is I need to refocus. I can’t seem to fall asleep earlier than midnight then when I try to wake up I am dead tired. Like I said though, the show must go on and there is a 20 miler waiting for me on Saturday morning and I will be ready for it. It will be my first 20 so there are some nerves there but that’s all a part of the process. Time to go to work…..

390’s are long gone

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Today’s workout was pretty cool; it was five miles so I decided to push myself a bit. Push it I did, I feel good now but I am really tired and sleepy. It’s probably the combo of 13 and then a hard 5 miles. Other than that I feel good, my feet are good so that is always a bonus. The lighter I get the easier on the feet I am sure it will be. I am officially in the 350’s so that is great and what a big difference being in the 350’s is over being in the 370’s. We won’t even talk about the 390’s, those days are long gone. It’s been 20 lbs since May 28th and about 34 lbs since last August. The hard work is paying off!!! Nap time….

Forward we march

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Today was a 13 miler, it was really good, I probably went a little too fast but I don’t feel any pain other than the normal soreness. I’m really tired so a nap is coming but I didn’t have a hard time waking up today like the trouble I had earlier in the week. I figured that was just a fluke this week. Oh well, forward we march. One thing I just realized is that I didn’t weigh in yet today or shoot the rest of my video; I’ll take care of that later. This week wasn’t bad at all other than the few days I missed. I think the worst part of the week is that I have to do yard work today and I hate yard work. I have a 5 miler tomorrow and then I get ready to prepare for the long run coming up next Saturday, 20 miles. That is almost scary but I figure I’ve done 18 and 20 is just two more. I hope I inspire anyone reading this to just get up and do it like you guys inspire me when you sign my guestbook. That stuff helps me a lot, it’s like it just isn’t me on the treadmill but all of you guys, and I appreciate the support. Now I am going to let my bed support me while I sleep. Time to take a nap…

To the week that was almost lost….it isn’t

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Well alright, to the week that was almost lost….it isn’t. I have to say the best thing about having a few days off is the freshness of my body. I felt like it was the first day of workouts, period. Tomorrow is 13 and that should go well. Other than feeling a bit more winded today (because of the long layoff I am assuming) everything was good. I can deal with being winded when there aren’t any other aches and pains. Today is my little brother’s birthday, he turns 28. When I was young I couldn’t stand him because he was so annoying, now I can’t stand to not have him around. He’ll be moving up around my part of the country so he’ll be a small drive away. Also as much as I couldn’t stand my brother back in the day, I now have a son that is just like he was. It is pretty fun for me now, but I’m sure his older sister wouldn’t say the same. Time to go to work….

I can’t wake up!!!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Hello everyone, it’s been a few days. I know I said I was going to start writing only a couple times a week but I have made the decision to change that again. I am going to continue to write on my workout days. One thing I have also decided to do is to write on any workout day that I don’t go workout on. Every now and then I will decide to take an extra day off here and there to let my body rest so on those days I’ll be blogging too. Now let me get into the reason I haven’t blogged in a few days. I can’t wake up!!! I have recently been trying to change my workouts back to the earlier morning (4-5 am or so) on the weekdays so I can get my school work in before I go to work but I seem to not be able to fall asleep until after midnight the last few days. The shocking thing is that it isn’t the video games keeping me up at all, I am in bed on time but the sleep doesn’t come. It bothers me a little (okay a lot) because I have missed a few workouts this week but my lifestyle has changed. So even though I have missed a few workouts that doesn’t mean the pizza man’s phone has been ringing off the hook. I’m still eating properly and still feel great. I know when I hop back on that treadmill I will be better than ever. Tomorrow I have 6 miles, 13 on Saturday, and then we finish the week with 5 on Sunday. If there is any good thing about me missing these few days it is that my feet are pretty much fully healed from all the pounding they have enduring over the last few weeks. After this week I have 8 weeks until the Fox Cities half marathon and I am really looking forward to it because I want to see how far I have come. I may not be on Disney pace but I might be pretty darn close. Well sorry for writing a book but I wanted to let everyone know what’s been going on, I missed a few days, but everything is still on track and I will be ready.

Two thumbs up

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Pretty good week this week, I feel it could have been better because I seemed to be pretty tired all week. I can say though some of that could be my fault, NCAA 09 came out on Tuesday so on a couple nights I stayed up a little later playing that. I didn’t on Friday night though so I don’t really know why I had a rough time waking up Saturday morning. I have recently started eating some brown rice a couple nights a week, I see it is pretty good for you and I was expecting it not to be as good as it is but it’s pretty good. I give it two thumbs up. Other than that, I am pretty pleased with my progress as I had to force myself to take it easy in the early going today because it was the long run. I didn’t have my Ipod either which was pretty boring at first but I got over it after a while. I bet I could repeat the whole transcript of the morning Sportscenter on ESPN today too. One thing I want to say is that I appreciate everyone’s support, I feed off the positive vibes I get from everyone and it makes it pretty easy to go a little further. Thanks again. Well, I’m tired and it still looks like it could rain but not as bad as earlier in the morning so I will probably take a nap just so I can hide from the lawnmower, nahhhh, it’s time for some video games. Until next time….

18 big ones again

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

You thought I’d forgotten about you huh? I didn’t, I’m just changing up a couple things. I’ve been blogging here on every workout day and I won’t be doing that anymore. I figure you guys are tired of reading that this went great or that went great with little else said so I figure I will blog mid week and after the long runs. After the long runs I should always have something interesting to say since I have so much time to think during the run. Anyways, this week is going alright, I haven’t been getting the proper sleep because NCAA 09 came out on Tuesday so I’ve been up kind of late, it’s even cutting into my Call of Duty 4 time. That’s another story though and I can fix that pretty easily by hitting the off switch a little earlier. Other than that everything is going great and hopefully I’ll be in the 350’s after this week. I have 18 big ones again this weekend; it should be about the same as last time except I expect to be a little stronger with it this time around. With all these long runs leading up to the half in September, 13.1 miles shouldn’t be a problem at all. Well, it’s time to go to work….

I can run like a wild man

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Today’s workout was good, weird that it was a long run on Sunday but well nonetheless. I was looking at trying to do the 13 in a certain time but then decided to not push it too far, even though I feel like I can run like a wild man, I am still 360. Funny thing happened yesterday; my daughter looked up at a picture on my bedroom wall and told me that I am “skinnier” now than in the picture. Now I am convinced things are changing because when a kid can see it, it’s working. By the way, my wife and I giggled about the use of the word skinnier. I have a 40 mile week coming up and I am going to try not to do any of my mileage this week after work so I can make sure I’m well rested for every workout session. As for now, it’s time for some school work and a nap…..nap first.

Just a normal part of life

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Today’s Friday and I had a 4 miler today. It went really well. I was telling my wife last night (she probably wasn’t listening) that I feel like everything I am doing is just a normal part of life now. I guess it has all become habit. Now I figure all that is up next is the weight coming off and my times getting better. I am sure the long runs will always be a challenge because there are still some 18’s and 20’s coming up shortly but it is nice to know that I am not afraid of those 5 and 6 milers during the week anymore. I have a 13 miler tomorrow morning, which should be a doozy.  I have also started back in class this week. It’s raining today so I thought of a quote a read a while ago. “Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” No idea who it’s from but I like it. Time to go to work…

That’s why they call it the present

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Today I had a 6 miler and I got that done with no problems, however, today I‘d like to go in another direction. This past week two ladies that I have known my whole life pasted away. One was in her 70’s, the other, in her early 40’s. They both died of cancer. Most of us wake up everyday and take it for granted, I know I have. These ladies will never wake up again. I know their time here on Earth was not wasted; they were someone’s sister, mother, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, this could never be a waste. Remember cherish today as it is a gift, that’s why they call it the present. Rest In Peace ladies, you made my run extremely easy today.
