I should pretty much melt outside

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Another day has passed by and as things in my personal life seem to not be going as I want them to the exercise part of my life is starting to take a turn for the better. The weather outside is really rough, it seems just fine when I begin but as soon as I get to around the halfway mark of my first lap I can really start to feel the draining effect the sun has on me. It isn’t horrible but I am not in Wisconsin in 60 degree weather. When I wake up in the morning here it is already about 85 degrees. I don’t think today was that warm but it was warm enough.

As I was trying to figure out how to make this video thing work since I am doing this alone I came up with an idea. I am going to film bits and pieces of my workouts over the next couple of months before the Disneyland half marathon and put out a video a good week or two before that race then film what I can of the race (depending on if I have to film alone or someone is with me) and continue on from there. It gives me a goal to hit because I want to show the weight loss during that 8 to 9 week span. As long as I am consistent I should pretty much melt outside here and it will be a drastic change. My goal is to make it all one video over the next two months and I have some pretty cool ideas to make the video an interesting one. Although it will keep me from posting a video (which I haven’t done in a long time) I think it is for the better. I will still blog and the blogs will be much more consistent so anyone who follows these will have an idea of what they will see when I put out the video. I’m really looking forward to it.

It’s time for me to have my oatmeal now, I cannot say I enjoy it but I know it is one of the best things for me. I just like the fact that it keeps you satisfied for such a long time. I am beginning to get used to it now, it pretty much has no taste anyway. I’ve tried the bananas and all but fruit in oatmeal doesn’t do it for me. I’d rather just eat fruit with my oatmeal, not in it. Until tomorrow…

I really have to snap out of this funk

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I woke up at about 5:30 this morning and figured I should get outside before it gets too hot. I made it outside around 6:30 and it was already 83 degrees, geez. It was a really nice 83 degrees though so I can’t complain. I’m not sure how I am going to be able to hold my video camera in one hand and my water bottle in the other, I think I will need a backpack of some sort. I woke up this morning after not much sleep as I stayed up watching CNN until about 1 am. I have always known that music was big deal but I didn’t really realize how big of a deal it was until last night. I woke up this morning and didn’t take anything for granted because you just never know. As down in the dumps I have been lately things were a little bit easier today. I really have to snap out of this funk. I can say though, when you are in a funk you know who your true supporters are and I am grateful for that.  Not much to report about my actual cardio routine today as it is just a big loop around the block. It’s doing the job though. Tomorrow I will see if I can get this video thing figured out. Until then…

Nothing can clear your mind like a few miles in 90 degree weather

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Not much to say today but I did promise someone I would be back today so I had to get outside today. Times are tough right now, very tough, but nothing can clear your mind like a few miles in 90 degree weather. Over the last few days I have had a few people get behind me and continue to push me towards my goals and I thank you all for that, it has helped to motivate me. I also promised one person the return of my videos this week so I have to make that happen too. I have also recently come back in contact with a couple friends I haven’t been in contact with since the mid to late 90’s and for whatever reason that has motivated me too. I couldn’t tell you why it motivated me but it just did. Now for the biggest motivator I have had in the last couple of weeks, my son. While talking to him yesterday he asked me if I was “getting skinnier” I told him while I was gone I would lose my “belly.” Now I can’t let him down can I? I don’t even need to explain why that motivates me, I’m sure you all can understand. I’m charging my video camera as we speak, I will have to do my video alone so that will be a small challenge but a challenge I can deal with.

Do you know what a dry heat is?

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Today we are starting to build up the mileage. It isn’t anything I haven’t done before but dealing with the heat is a new thing for me. It is so dry that it actually feels okay when you start but once you get into it you start to realize that it is quite hot out. I did a little over 3 miles today and I think I will keep it there for the remainder of the week. Next week I want to add another lap which will take me up to 5 miles. I am thinking once I can get it there consistently then I am used to the heat. I think I need something to throw over my shoulder to carry my water with me because even though I’m not far from stopping somewhere to get some fluids if I needed them, I would prefer to have them with me. I don’t have much to talk about today unless we want to talk about farmer’s tans. I would like to say something about the dry heat though. Do you know what a dry heat is? HEAT!!!
